Volunteer Information

FIRST LEGO® League would not exist without the continued and dedicated support of its volunteer force. Coaches, mentors, competition staff and tournament directors are paid nothing from FIRST to provide this opportunity to the FLL community. Many donate personal time and money to make the FLL program in Alberta the stellar program that it is today. Thanks go out to all who have participated in the past and all who will volunteer for the Smart Move season.

How can you help?

Become a Coach

Every team needs at least one, 18 years of age or older. If you are interested in coaching a team, contact the Tournament Director to ask about coaches’ training opportunities.

Become a Mentor

FLL teams need folks who have skills that they would be willing to teach the team. Teams can use mentors who are experienced in:

  • Engineering
  • Computer Programming
  • Science / Research
  • Teamwork
  • Public Speaking
  • Automation

You don’t have to meet with the team every meeting. Teams can often arrange their schedules and their learning experiences to accommodate a mentor’s busy schedule.

If you are interested in mentoring a team, contact the Tournament Director to ask about coaches’ training opportunities.

Volunteer at our Tournament

FLL competitions are often one or two day events that cannot operate without a volunteer force. We had almost 60 volunteers for last year's challenge.

There are many volunteer positions available for most any interest and skill level. Some positions need more training while other positions need no training.

Volunteers can be high school students or senior citizens. All you need is a willingness to help.

If you're interested in volunteering for this year's tournament please complete the application on this website or contact the Volunteer Coordinator.
